ESTORIL CASCAIS AREA

Owing to a Mediterranean type microclimate, the Estoril/Cascais Coast has mild winters and an ideal summer temperature, which never gets too hot. The autumn is ideal, and is like a second Spring. It starts in Carcavelos, 15 kilometres from Lisbon, and stretches as far as Guincho, creating a harmonious blend between the delights of the land and the enchanting beauty of the sea.

Beaches on the Estoril Coast face south in a continuous line from the Tagus estuary, and are known for their calm waters and fine sand. All modern facilities are available - changing rooms, beach tents, shades, restaurants, bars etc. Carcavelos, a wide, long beach, is very popular and ideal for surfing. Parede climate is exceptionally rich in iodine, ideal for bone disorders. Two of the best orthopaedic hospitals in Europe are situated here.

Cascais

Cascais is a sophisticated and lively beach resort, with plenty of cultural interest, including a 16th Century church, many museums, and a zoo. There are all sorts of bars, restaurants, clubs etc including traditional dance. Little town beaches - Praia da Rainha and Praia da Conceicao with charming surroundings and yachts bobbing on the water. The Praia da Ribeira is a picturesque spot, and still a traditional fishing harbour. The beaches of Cascais have names like the "Pescadores", "Marchioness" and the "Queen", reminding us of the time when it was the "Land of Kings and fishermen". Portuguese kings and many exiled kings have lived in Cascais over the years.

Estoril

The Estoril Coast stretches along the beautiful west coast from Lisbon. Along the coast lies an abundance of blue flag sandy beaches, beautiful lush countryside, and historical sites. Estoril itself is a beach holiday haven. The promenade stretches along Estoril's three beaches, and has all the facilities and refreshments needed for a beach holiday, together with a championship golf course. Also, not far away lies the Formula 1 Race Circuit. Estoril Casino is one of the largest in Europe, and there is always plenty of fun being had inside.

Praia dos Pescadores (Fisherman's beach) - where fishermen haul in their catches to be sold at the market.

Carcavelos

Next to the imposing fortress St Julian of Barras, with more than 1 km of sand lie and good transport access. Carcavelos Beach attracts many sun bathers in summer, and surfers all year round. A pleasant stroll can take you along the sand, where you pass by lots of each bars. Parking your car is easy in one of the many places available.

Guincho

5 Km from Cascais, lying at the foot of the Sintra hills and facing the Atlantic should not be missed. The sandy dunes blend subtly with the pine trees, the sea - rich in fish - rushes here and there into majestic caverns, such as the famous Boca Do Inferno, which is well worth a visit. The vegetation is varied and beautiful, and mostly of the Mediterranean type. Guincho has always been ideal for surfing, owing to the large breakers, but it is now becoming increasingly known for wind surfing - a sport much developed over the last few years.

Parede

A small beach with high iodine content in the water. It has handicap facilities.

S Pedro and S Joao do Estoril

Below the cliffs on this stretch of the coast are a number of small beaches, many of which are very popular with surfers.

Tamariz

The beach is next to the magnificent Estoril Casino and its gardens. Nearby there are many beautiful mansions.

Torre

Between the fortress and the Ocean Swimming Pool.

Villaggio Manique

Being within reach of the coastline and its many sandy beaches, as well as the close proximity to Lisbon and Cascais, Villaggio Manique is ideal for families looking for a mix of culture, relaxation, sandy beaches and, of course, shopping.

Villaggio Manique nestles in the dazzling setting of Cascais, right on the Estoril Coast. Surrounded by greenery, Villaggio Manique is a first class private condominium, only minutes away from Cascais. It is close to the Sintra Mountain Range and its National Park; also close to numerous beaches and only 25 kilometres (20 minutes) away from the beauty and culture of cosmopolitan Lisbon. Considered by many to be the Portuguese Riviera, Estoril and Cascais are full of glamour and charisma. Facing the south, the beaches in the estuary of the Tagus offer visitors calm water, fine sand and modern facilities.
